Snowflake Challenge 1: Fandom Information

• Current Passion [not necessarily fandom or fannish, but anything that takes up your time and thoughts - e.g. knitting, interpretive dance, meta about a movie that doesn't exist, or you know, one that does] I'm currently crocheting my very first scarf, I am writing a lot of fic and participating in a lot of AO3 exchanges (just finished my Writing Year in Review), and I play too much Genshin Impact (currently obsessed with the TCG). The most recent books I finished reading are Piranesi and Nona the Ninth. The most recent video game I finished playing is 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim (highly highly recommend). I also think a lot about and devote a lot of time and energy to work, but that's not what we're about here.


• Where to Find Me: [what platform do you use the most, or what platform do you use for different purposes?] yelp is my primary platform. I reblog stuff at yelpfic, self-promote, and feel like I've found a good Eyeshield 21 community there. I am trying to write more longform entries here on DW as well, like writing meta, screaming about exchanges, etc.

• Anything Else: [anything else you'd like to include] I somehow wandered into helping out with comments on challenge #1, but never got around to doing challenge #1 myself. So here it is!

Thank you!! I loved Piranesi a lot! I went into it without any knowledge and I just found it a fun read with a narrator I liked very much.

I had somewhat mixed feelings about Nona... For one thing I completely forgot what happened in the first two books, so I was very confused most of the time. (I didn't even remember who Pyrrha was, or what happened to Harrow at the end of HTN, lol.) I LOVED getting to see the John flashbacks, I loved every bit of when a character from GTN showed up, but I wasn't too enthralled by Nona's daily life (even though I thought her narrative was very sweet <3). Overall really looking forward to Alecto, but I'll definitely read a summary of the early books again beforehand!

Piranesi! <3 I'm glad you enjoyed it. The narrator is so lovely, and he has such an interesting way of looking at the world (and such interesting prose!).

I think I've heard that reaction to Nona from others as well! I think both HTN and Nona are divisive in different ways. And oooh, forgetting Pyrrha sounds rough! I thought she got a lot of the compelling stuff in Nona (or maybe I'm just biased and ship Camilla/Pyrrha :p). Although tbf, I read HTN the night before and I still had no idea what happened to Harrow at the end. :P

Divisive in different ways - yeah, I agree. I think Gideon was just such a delightful narrator. I was less into Harrow's negativity and Nona's naivete. I still loved getting more story and finding out more about the world and characters, but I got less enjoyment out of just following them around than I did Gideon.

Ooh, Camilla/Pyrrha, I support this!! I also went back to your post and saw something about Camilla/Dulcie, which seems sweet too :D And, good point, I do vaguely remember leaving HTN very very confused...

Yes! Would Pyrrha be extra into it knowing that a relationship with Camilla would be unlikely to last? I actually think so. :D

Not to be basic, but I was really taken by Camilla/Palamedes too actually ;_; Great partnership! Maybe Nona's perspective helped, it felt like all her three parents belonged together heh.

I crossed my wires this Christmas break and got Priory of the Orange Tree instead of Piranesi. You know how it is with words that start with the letter P. How did you like Piranisi?

Haha, I could see that happening to me easily! I do want to get to Priory of the Orange Tree sometime too! I've heard good things! (I didn't read your entry for spoilers, but I sense somewhat mixed feelings from you, haha...)

I loved Piranesi!!! I went into it knowing nothing, and I think that was the perfect way to read it! It was also a pretty fast read too. Hope you get a chance to check it out sometime!

My Priory feelings I think fundamentally sum to "make it 600 pages and get a move on or make it three books and let it breathe" but that is ALL I WILL SAY. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts upon reading!

I don't read much while school's on, but Piranesi is definitely on my list. The Author did Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, right? That book was a slow read for me but the payoff was good.

Haha, I've definitely felt that way about some books as well! I'll be sure to share my thoughts if I do read it, though your review makes me less inclined :P

Ah, makes sense about school. And yes! I actually remember starting Jonathan Strange a long time ago but never finished it, perhaps for the same reason. Since I liked Piranesi so much (and since you say the payoff was good), I do plan to give it another try soon!

I feel you so hard on the Genshin TCG hahahaha. What kinds of decks have you been playing? :D I've been poking my finger into every build and then some, but I've been mostly playing a Noelle Geo deck lately! But I've also had fun with Yoimiya/Xingqiu, Collei/Electro people, and obnoxious Maguu Kenki swirling, so I definitely haven't settled on a favourite build yet.

(Also, hello! Subscribing because I currently have a similar goal this year of 'actually use my DW for stuff aside from exchange letters' so high-five for that - may we both manage to write meta and scream about exchanges :D)

Yeees!! I haven't tried Noelle yet, but someone I know IRL is extremely into that deck too :D I've tried and enjoyed the others you named (well, idk how obnoxious I managed to get with Maguu Kenki, but it was real fun). I'm also weirdly into trying out the weird combos they give us (like a Tubby location deck - surprisingly good!!, an MRE food deck), as well as trying to get 10 proficiency on all the characters.

Ooohhh, I've included NRE in a lot of decks but never Tubby. Every time I think of it, I think of the 4-card restriction on support cards and shed a tear hahaha. Tubby needs a slot too and so many locations are permanent buffs, I won't be able to play Iron Tongue Tian or Liu Su or Liben and it hurts my heart LOL. But I should try that out sometime! Also same re: trying to build proficiency, which is a fun motivation to try new characters and decks :D

(Yes!! Battleship test rounds are coming up, I'm betting I'll have Feelings hahaha.)

That's what I thought too, but there are a lot of good short term location cards! Even when I don't have Tubby, I almost always include Liyue Harbor Wharf now... I like it better than Kokomi (and likewise for the heal locations vs similar food) (even though I usually bring Kokomi too lol) because you get 2x the effect for the same amount of card draw. But I agree there are too many good resources to play in those 4 slots!!

I just finished getting proficiency on my Noelle deck, it was a lot of fun! Noelle is so badass. It's already hard enough getting her shield to stay up long enough for her heal though, did they really have to make it only 1x per round? :P

Oohhh, meanwhile I always struggle with not having enough dice because I'm desperately trying to attack, so I prefer anything that costs less and has an immediate effect haha. It seems like it would be really neat in a slower/more control-based stall kind of deck though, so maybe I'll try it out in that kind of context sometime :D

Whooo, glad you enjoyed it! I'm glad they didn't nerf Noelle (though the Minty Meat Rolls nerf does affect her), because wow my heart is hurting from the Yoimiya nerf LOL. I was enjoying a Yoimiya/Cyno deck in the couple of days before 3.4 went live, but the good times did not last 8') That said, I 100% agree that it's hard to get Noelle's heal in before the shield goes down - unless I also played the 1-cost Geo Resonance card with the shield so it's 5 points, it always dies first haha.

I've been playing around with Klee since 3.4 and I'm finding her a bit clunky but fun! (Which I hear is how her character is too though I don't have her to confirm that LOL.) I'm trying to figure out a build for Beidou too. A whole patch later the card game still evidently has me in its grasp haha.

Oh no, the nerfs!! At least it validates that you had picked a strong deck, so strong that it could not be allowed to continue, haha. Yess, that Geo Resonance card helps so much with Noelle's heal! Although I just started playing with some of the healing artifacts, and they are a lot easier to use haha.

Ah, yeah! When 3.4 came out I just put Klee and Beidou in the same deck so I could multitask their proficiency. Now that that's done with, I haven't been motivated to come up with real synergies for them, heh. Beidou really grinds my gears because I feel like I'm locked out for a whole turn by her ability. What you get doesn't feel strong enough to me for that! I'm back on Razor+Collei for now...

By the way, I don't know if it's been obvious all along, but I recently found out that instead of clicking each die you want to reroll, you can just click and drag over all of them. Blew my mind when someone told me, haha.
